--_The Chief minister said the Government will enforce helmet rule on Highways.  Aldona MLA  Mr. Dayanand Narvekar drew the attention of the House to traffic indiscipline in the State and urged for strict implementation of the law as done internationally. He also said , “ Accidents in the State are  too much and there is no deterrent for rash and negligent driving”. He suggested that the Government could consider even suspending licenses. This was backed by Saligao MLA Wilfred de Souza.( Courtesy-Herald).

 

--Government urged to alleviate woes of yellow and black taxis. According to Transport Minister Mr. Padurang Madkaikar the ongoing clashes between the tourist taxis and yellow and black taxi operators in the State is seen not only at Dabolim airport but also at Karmali and Tivim Railway stations. According to him the tourist taxis operating at Dabolim belong to locals from Vasco. But Saligao MLA Dr. Wilfred de Souza  draw the attention of the House to tourist taxis from other areas transporting passengers to the airport “ and wait for passengers at Dabolim even after they have charged the return fare while transporting passengers to the airport.” This Dr. de Souza said , was unjust on the part of the tourist taxi  operators.

 

--The Fama of St. Cajetan took place yesterday Thursday 29th July, at Santo Caetano’s Chapel Arrarim. There was the’ Maddi,’ followed by Mass at 5.30 p.m. Rev. Fr. Andrew Mascarenhas, the Assistant at Mae de Church, Saligao, was the main celebrant at the mass and other religious ceremonies. The Novena begins today Friday, 30th with Rosary, Mass and Sermon at 5.30. p.m. The theme chosen for the Novena is “ Ghorabo”( Family), and the sermons will be delivered by Fr. Joe Fernandes, Fr. Jaime Couto and Fr. Eusico Pereira, all from Saligao Seminary. The Committee of the Chapel is : President Mr. Nicholas Sequeira. Treasurer Mrs. Merlyn Vaz and Mrs. Annie Cordeiro-Attorney. Meanwhile   new  names of the Chapel’s Committee are been sent to the Archbishop and his approval is awaited.

 

--- According to an information received from Mr. Seby D’Cruz, Arrarim,` Salmona Spring is declared by Goa State Pollution Control Board, unfit for human consumption, due to the dumping of garbage on the hill close to the Spring’.
