Hello Everybody,
Hope you foxes get this message as it not always gets through.
I would rather look at this matter in another angle. The Government does not give money. This money is by the people, of the people, and for the people.
The Government, rather allocates money, and has to allocate for Church maintenance of all the churches, temples and other public utility buildings. The church authorities must also have their word and protocol with the Government. These protocols and budgets are normally legislated and controlled, and is an obligation of the Govt.
The tourism industry in Goa, benefits tremendously due to the beautiful churches that Goa possesses, that took centuries to build. It is only due of the Government to fund the maintenance of the churches, which on Goa's Budget is an insignificant value. The parish priests, however should decide on how the money is applied, and could inform their plans on the maintenance.
In a Democracy, the people pay taxes, and these taxes should be applied in investments, according to the needs of the People and the Economy. In all the developed countries, there is a Government budget, for religious activities, investment and maintenance.
Hope Goa can make this step decidedly, as goa's future and economy depends on the rightful and intelligent application of the people's money.
Compliments,
Lećo Fernandes
