Stefano, Have you tried using "(machinename)\(username)" for the login name field in the login box?
It sounds like the SA machine is using the domain security context by default when attaching to non-domain machines. This sounds like normal behavior for NT/2000 authentication. Here is my situation: I have many server belonging to a domain of a WinNT domain. I have many servers that are Stand-Alone servers and don't belong to the WinNT domain. I use the last version of Servers Alive and it is installed on a computer that belongs to the domain I use Service Alive as Service and it is started by the LocalSystem account I can successfully monitor Services (CHECKS->NT->NT Service) using a login/password written in the username/password boxes I can successfully monitor Services (CHECKS->NT->NT Process) using a login/password written in the username/password boxes If I go to: CHECKS->NT->PerfMon and I write the login/password of the Administrator of the computer whose counters I want to monitor and I click on: 'Select Perfmon Counter' I have a new window open named Servers Alive even if it is the same windows of the standrad Win2K application 'Performance Monitor'. I write in the box the name of the computer I want to connect for monitoring the performance counters and I have a 'CAN'T CONNECT'. If I start Servers Alive as an application and not as a service and I log-in to the SA computer using the Administrator of the domain I can retrieve and monitor the counters of all the Servers that belong to the WinNT domain (but I cannot monitor the Stand-Alone Servers). Here are all the checks that I did: 1) Increased the time-out for the PerfMon checks (as described in the manual) 2) I saw in the Event Viewer of the monitored servers that when SA performs a PerfMon Counter check, there is a succesfull log-on and a succesfull log-off from the Servers Alive computer. 3) Servers Alive log reports an ERR PERFMON: -1073738820 and the value obtained is always -999 4) There is no network problem (such as firewall, etc.) Have you some suggestions for monitoring the Performance COunters for all the servers (belonging to the domain and not) using a Servers Alive ainstallation as a Service?
