I know but my mother/boss does use it to talk to my sister who works with IBM in the Websphere execution group and since Sametime© interfaces with AOL All of the IBM folks have AOL.  Since my mother talks with my sister by way of AOL, and since she is technically my boss she should be seeing a significant number of these down conditions instead of having her start an ICQ account cuz she wouldn’t use it for anything but receiving these alerts I would like to be able to send the to her AOl account.  I agree with your aforementioned statement (“Real network admins don't use AOL.”) however.
