Hello
Dirk,
I further debuged
the problem and now I know this: SMTP2POP3 always fails when
it does not get the mail the first time. I tried to let it pop a POP3 mailbox I
never use by a different provider. There was no mail in de mailbox and I let
SMTP2POP3 send mail to a different mailbox so it would never arrive. I set the
timeout to 550 seconds and nrofchecks to 10.
(The first thing I
noticed was SMTP2POP3 wait 28 seconds but according to the README this whould
have been 550/10=55 seconds. But this is not a
problem)
SMTP2POP3 first
says mailbox is empty and then after again 28 seconds it exits with errorlevel
-999). I will send you the name and password offlist to try it but i am pretty
sure this happens with all POP3 mailboxes. Version SA: 4.0.1461.
Version SMTP2POP3 v.1.0.10. I also checked it with the errorlevel test
application which is included in de SAlive directory (withoud SA
running).
Kind
regards,
Robert

Onderwerp: RE: [SA-list] SMTP2POP3 exits with -999 after first try to pop the mailbox and mail is not yet thereSend me the info off-list and I'll try when I'm back from holiday. And one other thing: don't send messages to the list that ask for a read receipt.Dirk.
Most of Woodstone's staff is currently on holiday, however support checks mail a couple of times a day (over a slow link). This does mean that we are not able to do all "normal" support tasks.
We will be back, in full force, on August 10th 2003.-----Original Message-----

Subject: RE: [SA-list] SMTP2POP3 exits with -999 after first try to pop the mailbox and mail is not yet thereHello Dirk,Time in ServersAlive is set 10 seconds longer than in SMTP2POP3. Problem is: both time-outs are around the 5 minutes and SMTP2POP3 quits after about 60 seconds. That is way I start debugging the problem. In SA I see the mailtest failed after just 60 seconds while timeout in both SA en SMTP2POP3 are on 5 minutes. Further debugging learns that SMTP2POP3 just checks the mailbox once (the Windows shows: no mail found...) then waits for next check and quits on the second check. If I decrease the nrofchecks to 3 or 2, so the mail has enough time to arrive in the POP3 mailbox SMTP2POP3 finds the mail on the first check and everything works fine.I can give you the address and password of the POP3 mailbox that fails if you want (and when you are back from holiday). Thanks for your support but don't let it spoil your vacation!Greetings Robert-----Oorspronkelijk bericht-----

Subject: [SA-list] SMTP2POP3 exits with -999 after first try to pop the mailbox and mail is not yet thereHello,Since the "crew" is on holiday I try the mailinglist. Maybe someone has had the same problem? There seems to be a problem with SMTP2POP3. I use it to send a testmail and receive that mail again from a POP3-server.
When I use these settings: timeout=300 and nrofchecks = 5 it works almost always fine. SMTP2POP checks for mail for the first time after 60 seconds. But when I increase nrofchecks (to e.g. 10) it starts reading the POP3 mailbox after 30 seconds. The email has almost never arrived after 30 seconds. I can see this in de SMTP2POP3 window. Again after 30 seconds, when it tries to check the mailbox again it quits with errorlevel -999. I can't see anything in the window because this goes very fast. When I add the parameter log=1 I just see the "sending message"-lines and not the "receiving message"-line (it would be nice to log all the output as shown in the SMTP2POP3 window...).To me, it looks like a logon-problem to the POP3 mailbox. When SMTP2POP3 is waiting between 2 checks, is it logout in the right way? Thanks for your answer.Robert Haerkens
