Several questions here:
Why stop it?  What kind of changes were you making?  
Do you mean auto start the updating again or auto start the service again?

If you are running Sa is alive or something similar then you would know that
it was not updating.  Also if you are using web templates you would easily
be able to tell that it is not updating.  I understand the "weak brain"
concept as you put it but an auto restart would only be frustrating to those
who want it stopped until started (while working on maintenance for a long
period of time for example.)

  it could be possible make autostart of Salive after saving configuration
or after time period, because I still forgot start Salive after I made some
