I am currently testing about 100 servers each have at least a ping most have disk space checking and a couple of key services. Should that account for 99% CPU time?

However this should only take a short time. I am finding it difficult to add and change entries on servers alive due to the CPU going to 50% when the hosts are being checked and 99% when I to add, change or browse. I have downloaded the latest version and the problem persists. I am not sure how long this is been happening as I have not been adding the entries myself, but I don't recall it being difficult to add the entries on the go in the past. Is this abnormal behavior for relatively standard checks? If so do you have any ideas? I have made a backup of the host file if that might be where to start looking.
