I suppose you have no clear idea on what exactly the com check was doing when the connection went down? Within the POP3 part there are different stages, the authenication (logon) part, the list part (were we get the number of messages) and the retrieve part (retrieving the messages). I suppose that the connection went down after the initial connect and during one of the above stages.
I did some tests with a "dummy" server but was not able to reproduce any "hanging" of the smtp2pop3 component. I'll do some more tests but as you might understand it's very difficult to reproduce this... Sorry anyway back to the task at hand.... Com version. Our internet connection went down because they did not associate our mac address with the static ip address that we should have had so there was literally no connection outside of our network. So it would be equivalent of unplugging the cable from the back of our router. I repeated the message because it happened overnight again last night (I assume they were fixing this very HUGE blunder). Sorry for not replying but I have not yet received the message you sent. -----Original Message----- From: Dirk Bulinckx [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, August 27, 2004 3:12 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [SA-list] SMTp2pop3 check You send a similar message a couple of days ago and I responded with: " What SMTP2POP3 are you using? The COM version or the errorlevel version? Do you have any idea how the system (isp) went down? Is the the whole server or just the smtp/pop3 services or was it network connectivity? I'm asking those so I can try to reproduce something similar on our network in order to see if I can get smtp2pop3 do have the same issues (hanging) and hopefully fix it too." You didn't answer any of the questions.... The lock up occurs when our internet connection goes down. The mail check sends mail from our server and retrieves it from a box on our ISP's server. It fails while trying to pop3 into the mail server that is no longer accessible since the internet connection is down. This freezes all checking in SA. This has caused several problems as I have come to count on server's Alive to notify me when things break. Our fax server was down for four hours because I did not get the alert saying it quit.
