What exact version of SA are you using?

I changed to our secondary internal serve without any luck, and then to
an outside server (ns2.mindspring.com), which also returned the same
error message (with DNS IP identified appropriately). Like before, I
was able to manually nslookup to both of these servers successfully. As
the box running Servers Alive has a static IP address, it also has
static DNSes defined, so my changes were done in the TCP/IP control
panel. But based on the log, it's obvious Servers Alive saw the
changes.

I'm still stumped.

Could you try it via another DNS server to see if that gives the same
result?

Subject: [SA-list] Problem sending direct smtp alerts

Greetings,

I've just setup SMTP alerting to 'send direct' to the intended
recipients (as they are outside my domain and my mailserver rejects
relays), but the notifications aren't being received. Both during the
actual alert generation and if I use the "Test it" button on the SMTP
Primary config page, the log reads:

ERR: didn't get a response from the DNS server (10.1.4.1) for this
domain (vtext.com), can't send mail to ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

My primary DNS server is correctly identified as 10.1.4.1, and when I
do an nslookup for a type=mx record at a command prompt, the server
repsonds appropriately with the mx record for the domain. I even
tried
adding the Registry key Primary_DNS_to_use per the doc, but the error
doesn't change.

I must be missing something. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Craig
