I am using SA to check a an APC Smart UPS 2200. I installed the APC Power Chute software on the server that it's conected to (via serial cable). Then I got the APC mib, used getif to find the OID that I wanted (I'm using the output status) which tells me when the UPS is on battery, etc. Getif gave me an OID of .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.4.1.1, I then appended a .0 (.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.4.1.1.0) and removed the leading "." (1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.4.1.1.0). I setup SA to do an snmp check on the server that's physically connected to the ups using the OID as above. When checked, this gives me an integer value which corresponds to a particular status, whose description can be seen using Getif. Works great.

Alistair Francis

Thanks, I have a look.
Is anyone else using salive with apc-ups's? Maybe you/they could post some of what they are checking and the setup for salive to do the check..
Thanks

I could be wrong but it's possible that you need to add a .0 or .1 to the end of your OID in the SA check.

If you're using GetIf with APC mib, then you'll see 'up', 'down', etc - but it is actually an integer. In GetIf look in the MBrowser section and you should see an area that shows the intehers in a drop down box with what they mean.
Or even easier, use the SA
Test button and see what number is returned for it.

Subject: [SA-list] apc 1400 & salive
I have an apc 1400 ups with the web interface card. I'd like to start doing
some checks with salive. I've used getif and was looking at the status of
the ups, it showed the following
.13.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7 up
when i tried to get salive to check this it always failed the check, so to
salive it was down (red) for each pass of the check.
what an I missing???
THANKS
p.s. using the lates beta 1639
