[SA-list] Newbie here with smtp question - already made the registry change in the doc

Hi there,   I’m new to SA.  I have set up smtp, and when I test it, it immediately goes to the timeout message, even though the timeout is set to 15 seconds.  I noticed in the doc that it say that the timeout key should be dword, but mine (by default) was a string key.  I also added the PingTimeout dword and set it to 15.  Why is it immediately timing out, even though the timeout is set to 15 secs?   Thanks, Jodie
