1. RRD is using the uniqueID not the hostID.
2. Yep training :-)
3. I see your point now...it would be better IF it would not just show a description of the check but also the prettyname I suppose?

1. With RRDLogging, is the hostID not also used by default when you click the Generate CREATE script? Whilst setting up the RRD stuff I had a number of checks with the same host ID. It looked to me that the RDD logging database was being overwritten and I fixed it by ensuring each entry had a unique hostID.

My thought was that when copying, the hostID should be empty so that you don't unwittingly have duplicate entries.

2. Understand the logic from your side, I raised it because I had to tidy up our config after a colleague used CTRL D numerous times, not understanding that the entry would still be there after clicking Cancel. Probably a training issue !

3. Don't think I quite explained myself properly ! The sequence is, CTRL D to copy entry Server1, the Pretty name is "Copy Of Server1". Change the Pretty name to Server1DNS and then drop down the "Depends on" field because you want the new entry Server1DNS to depend on Server1. What you see is two entries of Server1 and you don't know which one to pick.

* hostID and unique ID are NOT the same.  The unique ID is (or should be) unique, there is no GUI element in Servers Alive to change/edit it.  The hostID is the "number" you give to the entry and is only realy used within the numeric paging (as an identifier for the entry).

* good point on the CANCEL, however what happens is that a CTRL-D make the copy and then show the copy within the edit screen and you'll that it shows "UPDATE" and not "ADD" as caption of the lower-right button.  So basicly you're editing the already existing (copy). The CANCEL in this case is the cancel of the EDIT of the copy.  Not a cancel of the CREATE of the copy.

* You can always change that prettyname, we add the "copy of" to it, just not have the confusing.  If you decide to change the copy (for example drop the depends on option) then why not also change the pretty name?

I'm tinkering with 6.0.2056

When using CTRL D to copy a host, the Host ID is also duplicated. I've started to setup RRDLogging and as that uses the Host ID would it be better if a new Unique Host ID was used?

Also, if you use CTRL D and then change your mind and press Cancel would it be better if the duplicate entry is deleted.

Finally, when copying the Pretty name is changed to "Copy of XXX", but if you drop the "Depends On" option down you get two entries with the same name which can be a little confusing.
