Geoff, if it isn't already, enable security auditing on any domain
controllers at the site the server is at if you have configured subnet
segregation else all dcs. Also enable for the server you are monitoring.

You should see failures somewhere in these logs which should help
isolate the cause.

If you need I can provide a wmi script which you can run which acts like
an event log watcher agent.

I have not seen this issue but I admit that the event log com check can
be slow esp if remote logs are large or you have a lot of servers and or
checks, hence my own wmi agents.

As I am here, Dirk if you are reading this could I possibly make up an
oid to fire ficticious snmp traps at SA? I am guessing I can, this is
1. In the interests of science and 2. To keep an alerting system
centralised.

If you get the ACCESS DENIED then it's because the (remote)system gives
that back to us. I can't tell more then that

Sorry I don't get what you are explaining.

When I enter my Admin account in the use Authentication field while
logged on to the Servers Alive server as another account The com check
fails But when I log onto the servers alive server as the admin account
Previously entered into the use authentication fields it works OK

It is using them but it's not because you try to authenticated using
those, that the OS will accept it.

Dirk,

I have found that this only works when logged onto the Servers Alive
server as My Admin account so this leads me to assume that it is not
using the authentication Option that is available in the COM check ?????

Does the (remote)eventlog show any login attempts that fail?

I have tried this check against my laptop using my admin account Which
will locally allow me to view the evenlog but I still get the Error,
what else can I do to test the access in the same way as Servers Alive
is doing.

Thanks
Geoff

it means that the (remote) system doesn't accept this user for checking
the eventlog.
