If you have sniffer/netmon/ethereal/wireshark/... can you then check what device is responding to the connection attempt by Servers Alive? dirk ----- Original Message ----- From: Rainer Jochim (mailto:rjoc...@soleica.ca) To: Servers Alive Discussion List (mailto:salive@woodstone.nu) Sent: Friday, July 09, 2010 5:45 PM Subject: RE: [SA-list] False "Connection possible" result
Hi, Yes, there is a firewall, but the firewall is configured to block by ports and IP numbers, not by applications. In that case telnet via command line was right: the checked device had been taken down for testing. When the device is up, telnet can connect. And that this firewall allows connections done by certain apps only? ----- Original Message ----- From: Rainer Jochim (mailto:rjoc...@soleica.ca) To: Servers Alive Discussion List (mailto:salive@woodstone.nu) Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2010 10:45 PM Subject: [SA-list] False "Connection possible" result Hello all, We run a telnet check to an IP on port 9100. Servers Alive 62 returns Connection possible. Running the command manually on the same machine (Windows Server 2003) returns Connecting to... xyz... Could not open connection to the host, on port 9100: Connect failed Why would Servers Alive not return an error in that case?
