Don't mail the technical manual to the mailing list. Put it up on FTP and offer to mail it to individuals, but don't just send it to the list, otherwise certain friendly and useful people might feel pushed out and will stop reading the list. It's more about perception than actual bandwidth. If people feel that the mailing list is wasting their money they unsubscribe, and the Sam community loses out.
