I've been fairly quiet recently, so here's the latest Quazar news... Sam Revival ----------- Sam Revival issue 14 will be launched later this month, and is the first issue to feature spot colour through the magazine (as was mentioned in the editorial of issue 13).
Features inside this issue include all the latest news of the development of the Mayhem Accelerator - which is now up at it's top speed of 20MHz and in the final refinement stages of it's development. Frode Tennebo has interviewed Dr Andrew Wright, the author of the Sam Coupé's ROM and several Sam utilities. The cover disk will be featuring the classic Sam adventure game 'Days of Sorcery' by Nigel Kettlewell. The issue is available now for pre-order, priced at £3.99, or £10.99 for a three issue subscription. EU prices including airmail postage: £4.79 for the issue, or £13.49 for a three issue subscription. For more information and ordering details see www.samcoupe.com Mayhem Accelerator ------------------ I just gave the game away in the blurb above - the Mayhem Accelerator is running up at 20MHz. I'll be putting a lot more detail into the article in the forthcoming Sam Revival, and later a piece on the website, but for the meantime here are some benchmarks from the current prototype: Fractal Explorer - generating a Mandlebrot Normal Sam: 21.3 seconds Mayhem @ 10MHz - 10.48 seconds (203%) Mayhem @ 16Mhz - 7.50 seconds (284%) Mayhem @ 20MHz - 6.12 seconds (354%) BogoMips Benchmark - by Frode Tennebo Normal Sam: 0.360 bogomips Mayhem @ 16MHz - 1.206 bogomips (335%) Mayhem @ 20MHz - 1.513 bogomips (420%) Games ----- The revamp of Conquest is nearing completion, and will be released sometime this spring. And now that the Mayhem is up at speed i'll be rattling out the game engine for the first level of the conversion of Harlequin as a test to see how well it can run.
