the 2.2.8 last build apparently handles the "dotted" names internally in SWAT module. 
At least the SWAT help docs (links on welcome.html page), are often refernce 
unix-style dotted-names 
(man-references .1.html etc), and SWAT manages to map them properly onto respective 
.1_html etc. 
Still in this case it may be hazardous to the FTP of such weird files, as one needs to 
remember 
that they're ascii.

the previous version had the mentioned probelms with accesssing the dotted names, 
even more, the supplied docs somehow were corrupted internally (possibly due to 
ascii/binary probelms). with the recent version it seems 
to be fine (on VAX at least).
