To be honest, this is more likely to be low RAM in the client reading the file (it's a Windows client, isn't it ?). I recall that Windows clients require a certain percentage of the file size to allocate for the oplock RAM cache (or some such thing - Windows client internals aren't my strong suit, except how they behave on the network).
