The password is in the wrong place, it goes before /user: Replacing [password] with just the asterisk '*' character will cause it to prompt you for the password. net USE z: \\10.10.23.219\share [password] /USER:SMBUSER http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_Identifier#Well-known_security_identifiers says that your sid maps to the guest user account. Have you tried 'yum install samba-swat' and then used the webpage to configure samba.
