Hi all I have an Opensuse 11.1 64 bit acting as a PDC with all this pachages: samba-3.4.5-3.1 bind-9.5.0P2-18.1 dhcp-server-3.1.1-6.3 openldap2-2.4.12-5.3
It was working great for the first 6 months as a logon and file server for around 40 windows computers. But lately from time to time the samba server loses to be the master browser, and the only way to solve this problem is rebooting de entire linux At the beginning this problem appeared once every month, but from february-2011 it began to appear once every week. When samba is working normally I do the following command in linux PDC console: bago:/var/log/samba # smbclient -L bago -N Anonymous login successful Domain=[BAGOLIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.4.5-3.1-2289-SUSE-CODE11] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- InetPub Disk Documentos Web Cont Disk Contabilidad RegLPZ Disk Sistema Facturacion Regional LPZ ... other shares Soft Disk Software de Instalacion Bago Soft2 Disk Software de Instalacion Bago print$ Disk Printer Drivers IPC$ IPC IPC Service (bago) Anonymous login successful Domain=[BAGOLIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.4.5-3.1-2289-SUSE-CODE11] Server Comment --------- ------- ALBERTO Alberto Viladegut ALEX Alex Chacon ALMACEN Almacen Sopocachi ... other 30 lan computers TERESA Teresa Espinoza WILFREDO Wilfredo Romero Workgroup Master --------- ------- BAGOLIN BAGO It shows BAGO as master browser (espected data). But when samba loses to be the master browser I do the same console command and shows de following: bago:/var/log/samba # smbclient -L bago -N Anonymous login successful Domain=[BAGOLIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.4.5-3.1-2289-SUSE-CODE11] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- IPC$ IPC IPC Service (bago) print$ Disk Printer Drivers Soft2 Disk Software de Instalacion Bago Soft Disk Software de Instalacion Bago ... other usual shares Cont Disk Contabilidad sys Disk Sistema DET Bago InetPub Disk Documentos Web Anonymous login successful Domain=[BAGOLIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.4.5-3.1-2289-SUSE-CODE11] Server Comment --------- ------- BAGO bago RENE Rene Lazarte Workgroup Master --------- ------- BAGOLIN RENE As it can be seen, A windows 7 or vista takes the master browser job, samba's browse.dat file shows exactly the same two clients and on windows clients when browsing the lan it only shows 2 or 3 computers, but I can access the 'hidden' windows computers from others just with \\computername format. Everything else seems to work fine. and the nmb logs showed the following ***** Samba name server BAGO is now a local master browser for workgroup BAGOLIN on subnet 192.168.0.14 ***** [2011/02/23 10:09:12, 0] nmbd/nmbd_become_lmb.c:395(become_local_master_stage2) ***** Samba name server BAGO is now a local master browser for workgroup BAGOLIN on subnet 127.0.0.2 ***** [2011/02/23 11:08:17, 0] libsmb/nmblib.c:834(send_udp) Packet send failed to 192.168.0.236(138) ERRNO=Operation not permitted [2011/02/23 12:03:25, 0] libsmb/nmblib.c:834(send_udp) Packet send failed to 192.168.0.155(138) ERRNO=Operation not permitted [2011/02/23 12:14:34, 0] libsmb/nmblib.c:834(send_udp) Packet send failed to 192.168.0.142(138) ERRNO=Operation not permitted [2011/02/23 13:21:26, 0] libsmb/nmblib.c:834(send_udp) Packet send failed to 192.168.0.171(138) ERRNO=Operation not permitted [2011/02/23 14:33:20, 0] nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:308(process_local_master_announce) process_local_master_announce: Server PAOLA at IP 192.168.0.140 is announcing itself as a local master browser for workgroup BAGOLIN and we think we are master. I changed two parameters in my smb.conf log level = 3 (to have more log information) os level = 255 (to make my linux samba server the only one master browser) this configuration worked this last 2 months, and the problem appear again. A checked samba logs and found nothing except in the log.wb-BAGOLIN file a line says: RPC fault code DCERPC_FAULT_OP_RNG_ERROR received from host BAGO! But now my LAN have sixteen windows 7 profs and this number will grow up meanwhile windows xp clients will decrease. Can I say that this problem is because my samba version wasn't designed to support windows vista and 7 systems as domain clients? Is there any solution to overcome this problem? Any hint will be really appreciated below is my smb.conf file and some relevant log pieces as attachments.
