Make sure that these packages are installed. This is what it takes to compile samba 3.
BuildRequires: pam-devel, readline-devel, ncurses-devel, libacl-devel, krb5-devel, openldap-devel, openssl-devel, cups-devel BuildRequires: autoconf, gawk, gtk2-devel, libcap-devel, keyutils-libs-devel I have had some problems compiling s3/s4 on CentOS 5.6. I finally decided to run Debian Lenny in a VM on the same server that I wanted s4 on. I use samba3x on CentOS for file sharing and auth is done to the s4 on Lenny. Works great.
