set-up an account on the Linux machine, Then put
null passwords = yes in the smb.conf file ( the global section) then do a smbpasswd -an username which will create a samba account with no password ( or a null password ). I took a quick look at this. To use an account with no password try smbclient -L host -Uname%"" instead. If the password is not supplied then smbclient will always try again with an anonymous request.
