The difference pops up when a 3d > party software like Office joins the game. I do not believe this! I looked into samba sources and didn't find any way how client (i.e. Windows + Office) could see different filesystem, there is no API which would make this possibe. But I do not know samba sources well, so it's quite possible I'm wrong.
