I was in the process today of setting up some VPN connections through our firewall. Reading through the docs, there was a part there that specifically said that a Wins server is needed. I was a little surprised by this so I contacted the vendor to verify this.
They informed me that a WINS server is very much needed or the VPN would not work properly at all.
Must to my dismay, looks like im up a creek with out a paddle at this point.
Oh well. Hopefully, in the future, when management starts listening instead of barking, I can set up things my way. :)
I appreciate everyones help on this list. Everyone is great.
Cheers,
Jason

Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to see this question?
It means that years of saying "USE WINS IT IS GOOD FOR YOU" has had no effect! :)
Oh well. Go on, use WINS, it's good for you! :)

Please refer me to chapter and pages in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf available from the Samba-3.0.0 CVS code tree. Tell us please where it is glossed over so we can fix it. We need to get the message across. This is so important, and yet we have had so little in the way of patches and documentation updates. You can help to make it better though, and your input is welcome.
