The built-in file locking mechanism was not scalable. Performance would degrade to the point where processes would get into loops of trying to lock a file. It would try a lock, then fail, then try again. The lock attempt was failing before the grant was occurring. So the visible manifestation of this would be a handful of processes stealing all of the CPU, and when they were truss-ed they would be stuck if F_SETLKW64 loops. Sun released patches for Solaris 2.6, 8, and 9. The patch for Solaris 7 has not been released yet. The patch revision for 2.6 is 105181-34, for 8 is 108528-19 and for 9 is 112233-04. After the install of these patches, it is recommended to reconfigure and rebuild Samba. Thanks to Joe Meslovich for reporting this. As your patch level is 112233-02 you may need to update this! Cheers, Simon - -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 09 January 2004 12:44 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Samba] Error on SMB Packages List, I have been having a few problems with a couple of machines accesing my Samba server (SunOS zeusv480 5.9 Generic_112233-02 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R running Samba version 2.2.2). I have been playing with the parameters on smb.conf for a while now (sockets, oplocks, etc) and I couldn't improve the performance, so I decide to go for an snoop on the network card serving samba and I'm getting a few messages that I don't understand (see below); Anyone could give me a hand to get this? 0.00052 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileName=???????????????????????????????c Error=0 0.00022 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB C Code=0x24 Name=SMBlockingX FileID=0x136d #Unlocks=0x0 #Locks=0x0 Error=0 0.00024 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x24 Name=SMBlockingX FileID=0x136d #Unlocks=0x0 #Locks=0x3 Error=0 0.00036 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x24 Name=SMBlockingX Error=0 0.00017 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x24 Name=SMBlockingX FileID=0x136d #Unlocks=0x0 #Locks=0x0 Error=0 0.00023 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileID=0x136e Error=0 0.00030 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 QueryFileInfo FileID=0x136e Error=0 0.00011 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00025 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x4 Name=SMBclose FileID=0x136e Error=0 0.00017 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x4 Name=SMBclose Error=0 0.00029 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 QueryPathInfo File=????????????????????????????????????c Error=0 0.00020 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00026 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 QueryPathInfo File=????????????????????????????????????c Error=0 0.00018 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00041 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileName=??????????????????????????p????c Error=0 0.00026 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileID=0x136f Error=0 0.00026 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 QueryFileInfo FileID=0x136f Error=0 0.00011 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00032 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x4 Name=SMBclose FileID=0x136f Error=0 0.00016 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x4 Name=SMBclose Error=0 0.00027 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileName=??????????????????????????p????c Error=0 0.00022 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB C Code=0x24 Name=SMBlockingX FileID=0x1368 #Unlocks=0x0 #Locks=0x0 Error=0 0.00011 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileID=0x1370 Error=0 0.00001 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 NBT C port=4462 0.00018 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 SetFileInfo FileID=0x1370 Error=0 0.00778 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00027 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x4 Name=SMBclose FileID=0x1370 Error=0 0.00018 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x4 Name=SMBclose Error=0 0.00073 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 QueryFileInfo FileID=0x136d Error=0 0.00012 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00024 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 QueryFileInfo FileID=0x136d Error=0 0.00009 zeusv480 -> 10.32.3.36 SMB R Code=0x32 Name=SMBtrans2 Error=0 0.00086 10.32.3.36 -> zeusv480 SMB C Code=0xa2 Name=SMB NT_CreateX FileName=??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
