At our location, only the windows server has large capacity backup solutions.
I would like to backup to a smbfs partition. I’m running Mandrake 9.2 with Samba 3. I tried a simple tar –cvf and it failed as the file size got past 2 Gigabytes. I know this was an issue with early Unixes. Is 2 GBytes a file size limit? Is there a backup solution (commercial or otherwise) that will split the files into appropriate sizes and store them on a remote smbfs file system. It would be perfect if it could save a disk image and/or remember links and all the file permissions. Any suggestions appreciated. __ __ ___ ________ ___ __ ___ ___ Dirk Broer / ||/ || /_ || /__ __// /__ \\ /// /__ \\ / __\\ //||//||| ///||| /// ///_/// __ /// ||| ///_ ///| //||| /___ || /// /__ // /// /// /__ || /// |// ||| /// ||| /// /// ||| /// ///__/// ____/// /// |||/// |||/// /// ||| /// |____// /____// Software Engineer (410)872-0300 #include <standard_disclaimer> #include <funny_quote> -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
