This is not about Luke's proposal. If you re-read the letter again you will see many hints of his previous comments. Trolls are no big deal. And a good troll can even be fun. But lies, threats, and abusive messages both on-list and off are not the active of a responsible member of a community.
This is not a moderated list, not do I ever imagine it will be. But we do out best to make it a productive list[s]. Therefore we do perform certain content filtering for SPAM. Luke's messages over the past four years always degrade into SPAM. There is much more history in this decision than one post to a mailing list.
I encourage anyone who wants to understand more background to search the mailing list archives which are linked from http://www.samba.org/samba/archives.html.
