Sot is appears we have been all testing with nice 8 character usernames :-) Yes, it appears the base64 code was borked, and while it got fixed up in Samba it didn't get fixed in PPP. I need to work with the maintainer to get this fixed. There is an existing (and I presume correct) base64 implementation in ppp, what's missing is just the glue to call it from this context.
