Firstly this isn't a Telnet/SSH list. Such subject must be send to correct lists and not here. Second, avoid use telnet, or anyone in your network can eavesdrop your passwords. Probably you can't connect using another user using SSH because your sshd_conf settings is blocking this. Check it.

The problems we are having are as follows: a) If we set connect with telnet, we get the login prompt. If we use any valid login name & password combination (including root), we get the response "Login incorrect" and then the login prompt comes back. How can we allow non-root users to connect with telnet? b) If we connect with SSH, we can log in with "root".
