There are a number of thing's you can do to speed up Sambar but first you
should have a real good idea of the limits of your system (how much RAM
NIC's etc. The cache is a good thing to use but it should be limited to
only a portion of your overall memory. On a system I have here there is 2
gigs of RAM and I give Sambar 512 MB on another with 512 MB I give Sambar
50 MB. It's also important to decide on what you're going to cache
setting the max file size to the rough size of your thumbnails will
improve the delivery. htacess is also very handy for specifying the type
of file you want to cache and how long to cache them.
Also try compressing your content that can really help (config.ini
Compress Content = true)
Tod has also introduced a little more control of the threads used and by
increasing the idle threads it will speed up image loads. I never had the
broken image problem that Steffen referred to but the idle threads seems
to have fixed that.
I don't think there's too much you can do to tweak XP home that might be
a drawback but I used a cable modem like that a couple years ago and you
should still be able to serve pages quickly if they are well designed and
lean.
Good luck.
Peter
