With his connection speed and simply serving up basic pages / images (no databases) I
can't see any reasons to go to much trouble.. I have a Pentium 133 with 16MB that
could keep up with 128kbps all day long, cached or not cached. Unless your just not
wanting your drive to spin and have a lot of time / money to waste I don't see much
benefit to tweaking out a slow upload server..
Now, if you have a fast connection (ie; T1 or >) I would keep an eye out on disk IO
and CPU util and see if the machine is keeping up with your pipe.. Scripting and
Database work will obviously increase these. If your not keeping up with the request
then you might consider adjusting cache levels, cranking up memory and shutting down
some of that disk IO.
As for validating what version of Sambar you are running to ensure the server doesn't
have delays feeding images, I am all for that.
