Are you resolving your sambar server by external IP. If so and your doing NAT to get 
to the internet then you could see some flakey results accessing the name. ie; 
internal ip address trying to access the wan address of your external.. Try changing 
your pop3 configuration to the internal IP address of your sambar server and see if 
that resolves you.. If so then the permanent solution is to create an internal 
DNS/Host file for your domain that does not resolves the internal address.
