I understand the want to do this. I am a techie, and I like to try new
things, but it seems that something like www.dns2go.com will do what most
people want.
Here are the features from their website:

Dynamic IP Resolution
HTTP Port Relay
Online Redirection
Offline Redirection
Event Logging
DNS2Go Web Client
Multiple Domain Support
Runs as a Service
Gateway Extensions
Time Sync
DNS2Go Communities
Scheduler
Socks 5 Support (authenticated or non-authenticated)
Multiple Internet Connection Detection Methods
Quick Start Guide
WhoIS Query
Connection Watcher
Ping/TraceRoute
Configuration Import/Export Utility
Wildcarding

It's also free!! I used www.godaddy.com to register an $8.95 domain name
and I use dns2go for DNS.

just my 2 cents

Garrett

p.s. I'm not affiliated with them at all.
