I personally think the right way to go,in this case, would be to use Perl's Win32 support. there's the Win32::AuthenticateUser - Win32 User authentication for domains module which should be able to handle this. There's LDAP support which is way more flexible and future oriented than supporting a product who's life cycle has been permaturely "ended". my 2.5 cents...
