Tony Rinaudo is the founder of FMNR, and leads one of the most successful
agricultural aid program on the planet. Starting in Niger and expanding since
the 1990s, millions of people have benefited through the afforestation of
millions of hectares of previously desertifying farmland. FMNR (Farmer Managed
Natural Regeneration) is a technique of low cost reforestry that regrows trees
and shrubs for timber, restores soil structure and fertility, and allows for
high yielding agroforestry and livestock management by repairing the
surrounding Ecosystem.
iJoin us and learn the ecological techniques with FMNR that can be used to
reforest large areas of land in areas that lack rainfall and resources. Also
learn how communities benefit, Tony's story, and how you can benefit from FMNR.
Tony is going to show you...
How FMNR helped Reforest Millions of acres of desertified land across Africa,
while increasing the livelihoods of farmers and stakeholders across the region.
How FMNR works ecologically, economically, and practically.
How he pioneered FMNR during the 1983 Famine in Nigera and scaled it up since
then.
How FMNR reforestation can work to grow timber, food crops, medicines, stables,
livestock, and increase biodiversity, even in desertified land.
Why large scale reforestation can work, even in areas with severe poverty and
lack of of resources.
Ways you can support and work with FMNR.
About Tony...
Tony spent 18 years in Niger managing a long-term agricultural development
program. The natural-regeneration reforestation methods he has developed have
contributed to over five million hectares of land being re-vegetated in Niger.
Through a country-wide famine, he pioneered FMNR, and helped farmers spread it
throughout the region.
Today he is based in Melbourne and his specialist areas are de-/reforestation,
desertification, food security, sustainable farming and food production. Tony’s
current focus is promoting reforestation internationally and facilitating
ongoing research and development of edible seeded Australian acacias.
