With my usb connection, all of the issues that I had listed in my
original post
(https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/sane-devel/2019-March/036608.html)
have been resolved, except that, for Xsane/Advance Options, pressing
“Update button state” has no affect and the other 5 sliders/windows are
grayed out; however, I haven’t explored the “button” thing yet. After
configuring Xsane/Setup optimally for the photos that I was scanning,
the scanned images look great at all resolutions thru 1200 ppi.
After testing scanimage, simple scan, and xsane I have the
following observations and questions:
For scanimage scan: Results from this scan of a 4” x 6” (152.4mm x
101.6mm) photo has a resolution of 75 ppi. Is there a way to get higher
resolutions with this command? I didn’t see any here:

For simple scan: With 4” x 6” photo oriented Landscape at upper right
corner of the platen, the scanned image is cut off on the right side,
showing a 4” x 4” Landscape image in the upper portion of a 4” x 6”
Portrait frame. If I position the photo oriented Portrait at the upper
right corner of the platen, the scanned image fills the 4” x 6” Portrait
frame, which can then be rotated 90* and saved in the Landscape
orientation. Not sure if this was intended, or not.
For Xsane scan: With the 4” x 6” photo oriented Landscape, and a “full
size” “Acquire preview” done, the 4” x 6” image is shown Landscape at
the upper left as expected. But if, instead of “full size”, I select
4” x 6”, the “Acquire preview” is a 4” x 4” Landscape image, with the
right side cut off. Re-orienting the photo as above for simple scan has
the same outcome. Again, not sure if this was intended, or not.
Lastly, what is the difference between the setting in Xsane
Setup/Copy/Scan Resolution and Xsane Main menu/Set scan resolution?
Does the Main menu supersede the Setup settings?
How do I delete “device `canon_pixma:libusb:001:006' is a CANON TS6200
series flatbed scanner”?
Should I proceed with the WiFi setup?

Yesterday I merged the merge request bachends/!43. You can update SANE
from my Ubuntu ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git) later today.
Please report if the scanner is working with SANE, especially scans >
600dpi.
Before you start with WiFi connection, please test USB first.

I find it unfortunate that the backend pixma does not take input usb-id.
The pixma driver supports all printer scanners:
canon pixma ts and canon pixma mg.
Currently you have to add it directly in the code.
I assume that the pixma backend maintainer would welcome a patch adding
support for this ;-)
