I see that you have been working on the HP 2400c driver. This is essentially the only scanner that I can get at a reasonable price at the places that I know and, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be supported under Linux. I would like to know if there is any possibility of having it working in the near future. If this is not the case, I would welcome any recommendation of scanners that are fully supported under Linux (with only Free Software), so that I try to see if I can find it (preferrably from an Free/Open Source-friendly company that I can support).
