Job Summary
The primary duties of this position involve monitoring / maintaining the
enterprise SQL Server database infrastructure. The SQL Server
infrastructure contains a variety of stand alone instances, as well as high
availability solutions such as replication, log shipping and database
mirroring. Standard work hours will be 8am-5pm weekdays; however, this
position will be responsible for database environments around the world –
and as such, off hours support will be required at times. This position
will be responsible for front line support for the enterprise SQL Server
environment.
The ideal candidate will be an individual who has strong Microsoft SQL
Server experience in a developer role, where they not only wrote T-SQL
daily and developed and maintained stored procedures; but through those
efforts also developed a deep understanding of performance metrics,
indexing strategies and database engine internals.
Alternatively, someone who has operated as SQL Server Database
Administrator for a small organization, overseeing only a handful of SQL
Server installations, would excel in this opportunity for growth.
The ideal candidate will need to have a thirst for knowledge, a desire to
move into a more comprehensive SQL Server DBA role and a knack for solving
problems.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2 through 2014
database environments and related tools using defined enterprise standards.
- Provide front line support to IT teams, as well as end users, for
existing SQL Server installations / SQL Server databases.
- Monitor, maintain and test SQL Server database backups.
- Review database configuration and performance metrics and proactively
address areas of concern.
- Support standards ensuring effective maintenance and stability of
database environments.
- Assist with the enhancement of SQL Server infrastructure documentation.
- Administration of production and development / QA environments.
