This position applies to Oracle databases running on Linux OS. The candidate is viewed as an expert in Oracle database analysis, development and tuning. Undertakes complex database projects requiring additional specialized technical knowledge of both Linux and Network. Makes well-thought-out decisions on complex database issues. Coordinates with users to determine requirements. Ensures that database changes are successfully implemented and verified. Establishes and communicates common database goals and directions for the project team. Acts as a source of direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff. *Duties:* Serves as a strong technical resource to TI&S management, project managers, data administrators, other DBA’s and programmers. Has a thorough knowledge of the Oracle DBMS, and a basic knowledge of another DBMS. Where available, is industry certified in primary DBMS. Advises on the appropriate application of database technology to TU systems development. For primary DBMS (Oracle), is able to perform all standard, and complex DBA functions related to the Oracle platform and related tools. In particular: · Use of RAC , Data Guard and GoldenGate for High Availablilty solutions. · Experience managing an Oracle Exadata environment as a Database Machine Administrator. · Performance tuning of high transaction volume applications. · Design backup and recovery management solutions for +50 TB databases. · Design data migration strategies across DBMS platforms with little or no down time for the application. Is fully cognizant of a project lifecycle and where database administration services fits into the project life cycle. Looks for and champion’s opportunities for cost effective process improvements within the database group. Looks for ways to guide application development project teams to better deploy or use database tools. Understands advanced physical database design concepts like database partitioning, de-normalization, SQL tuning, and index optimization. Has a solid knowledge of relational theory and understands the benefits and purposes of “3rd normal form” and star schemas. Analyzes database performance, modifying DBMS parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources. Monitors database resource usage, making required adjustments. With administrative direction and assistance from management, leads the evaluation and selection of database support tools. Sets up product demos, and objectively evaluates tools. Coordinates the collection of feedback from other evaluators. Summarizes the input, makes cost conscience tool recommendations. Writes up the body of the AFE. May be responsible for the effective deployment of tools in the group. Sets up training classes and may function as a tool administrator, working with the vendor, internally coordinating product upgrades and fixes. Oversees or performs the installation and testing of database software upgrades working with the systems and applications teams. Participates in on-call production support activities. Is expected to have the technical knowledge and capability to handle all problems (for the DBMS in which the Senior DBA is qualified) that may arise. Proactively puts procedures in place to prevent and reduce the severity of outages. Leads in establishing and updating standard group procedures dealing with database design, naming standards, security, database access, SQL conventions, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. *Qualifications:* · BS/BA Degree, preferably in Computer Science or comparable experience. · Typically requires at least ten years of experience working on the target platform as a DBA, with at least five years’ experience as a senior or consultant level DBA on the target DBMS. · Thorough knowledge and experience working with: 1. OEM 2. RMAN 3. RAC 4. DataGuard 5.
