The position involves extensive work in a Windows/UNIX environment to various perform database administration activities and development of SQL queries for use with the Ad Hoc Reporting and/or analysis and correction of data in a MS Sql Server database. The candidate will need strong database administration skills, analytical skills, strong communication skills, and extensive experience working with MS Sql Server or equivalent Enterprise level database. *Essential Function:* The candidate will be involved in the databse administration activities and development of SQL queries for use in Ad Hoc Reports, analysis of data quality, and data manipulation within a MS SQL Server database. Strong data analytical skills and experience with the ability to communicate is a must. Solid working knowledge of UNIX commands and development and execution of UNIX shell scripts, database stored procedures, and work with relational databases and tables are needed. Must be able to work in a team environment and independently with minimum management oversight. Must be extremely attentive to detail as the successful candidate will be reporting on and modifying production data for the customer. Must possess high energy and strong motivation to make a difference. The work is fast paced with changing priorities. Task switching without loss of productivity is a must. The Candidate must have minimum 4 years of experience performing SQL Server Database Administration tasks such as - Backups, Restores - Database creation/Maintenance/security - User creation/ Maintenance/ Security, Roles etc. - Troubleshooting administration problems - SQL Server agent jobs and its components -Installing and configuring SQL Server - Performance tuning, identifying need for adding or dropping indexes for optimal database performance - Database monitoring The Candidate must be able to review code and suggest best practices. The candidate must have be able to write SQL Code such as - Stored procedures, functions, triggers, views etc. - Must be well versed with Data Definition Language (DDL), Data Manipulation Language (DML) and Transaction Control Language (TCL) - Must have be able to look at already written code and trouble shoot if necessary - Must be able to come up with the most optimal Database Code solution for a given requirement - Must be able to understand the data model and write and apply scripts to database per business needs - Must be able to work with Replication/ Log shipping etc. The candidate must have a strong problem solving ability. Must be able to debug complex code and trouble shoot complex problems. The candidate must be able to approach a performance problem, use tools to analyze the problem and be able to get to the root cause. Must be able to help with corrective action to fix the problem. Must be aware of Performance analysis tools such as, - SQL Server Profiler - Major Perfmon counters - SQL Server DMVs The candidate must be able to review artifacts and provide advice. The candidate must be aware of automation scripting. The Candidate must be able to trouble shoot and support complex situations with Database Admin tasks. The Candidate must be able to research and find root cause and provide the best solution for a given project situation. The candidate must be aware of configuration management concepts like source control, versioning and standard configuration management processes. The candidate must be able to work with multiple remote databases and make sure all the environments have standard optimal configuration. The Candidate must be able to guide and train team members.
