Right now the group is currently looking to bring on a Sr J2EE engineer to focus on project maintenance and defect fixing for a new release of their point of sale analytics tool. The engineer will work collaboratively with the core team in Westford, MA as well as a team of engineers in India. There is the potential that the consultant will be called upon to mentor junior team members and be put in front of end clients. REQUIRED SKILLS · 7+ years of previous J2EE/JAVA development experience in a business environment · Strong knowledge and profound exposure to retail domain, with proven experience and a strong desire to think and deliver strategically while remaining proficient and engaged tactically with solutions. · Demonstrated competency in Java and Object-Oriented technology along with an understanding of middleware, persistence, and web integration principles · Experience working within a disciplined software engineering process including requirements management, design, test, configuration management, and maintenance techniques · Extensive hands on experience with J2EE technologies, Hibernate, Servlets is a must · Experience developing professional web based user interfaces · Extensive experience with RDBMS (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server) · Extensive experience with Weblogic, WebSphere, Tomcat. · Experience with TDD, automated build and supporting technologies, such as JUnit, Maven, Hudson. · Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and written & verbal communication skills · Knowledge of common development platforms, such as Eclipse · Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work well within a team and meet deadlines DESIRED SKILLS · Application performance tuning skills · Experience with software development best practices (RUP, XP, Agile). *Below is addition information to help prep* * * · The groups focus is on the retail industry (25 customers: example of a customer is Gap: locations North America, Europe, South America, Africa) · They have issues with their hand held product. They’ve managed to stabilize all the performance issues but are now looking to stabilize functionality · They have 200-300 issues with the issue log and need a consultant to resolve the issue log. They have been in this process for 4 years because the clients are always asking for enhancements · The application they develop is database independent. They have clients that run on SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 and one other database · The product is built on Java 1.4. because of the different databases they use different web servers: Web Logic, WebSphere, Tomcat, ect. · She wants to know about background and responsibilities. She drives her questions around Java and J2EE from the background/career information provided. · She digs into Java backend technologies · Wants to know about JSP, JavaScript and HTML · Asks about Servlets and Struts · Issues they have identified are 20% backend and 80% frontend. Lots of JavaScripting and work on the Servlets. · They have a homegrown framework and 80% follows the Struts framework · They use HTC provided by Microsoft and its 90% Javascript. (It’s based on the same model as Struts) · There are 2 versions of the product 1)PowerBuilder (been around 10 yrs) and 2)Web Version (been around 8yrs) · Will need to help troubleshoot on front end with JavaScript and JSP · Even though most of the issues are on the front end they do need someone who can do things on the front end, middle tier and the back end. · There is no design work on this project. The design has been consistent for 10 years. This will all be coding and enhancement work. · The product is a multiple language application. Supports German, French, English as well as Euro Currency and South African currency. · Many issues surround who the user is and what language they use. English language issues are functionality issues. These English language issues are the base language issues. · Client Server Application runs on PowerBuilder · A year ago they went through a performance project. They increased the performance by 80%. There are still performance areas to improve but the focus at this time is functionality issues. These issues are mostly on the front-end as the client application server runs very smoothly. · She asks how comfortable people are coming in for long hours. She specifically asks 7am. · Wants to know how people perform under high pressure environments. · She has a 10 minute consultant question period after she has asked her questions. · They are stuck with JDBC and they don’t want to do any connection pulling · They do the maintaining on their own · They are looking for an all round resource.
