Cisco Engineer Location: Jackson, MS Length: 3-6 months Rate: 55/hr Description: *SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:* Work in the IT department in Infrastructure to provide and maintain highly specialized information technology solutions. Work independently to perform a variety of administrative and technical work using defined standards, constraints and system requirements to manage the full life cycle of network administration. Work includes implementing, monitoring, maintaining, testing and documenting voice and data networks for all company locations. This individual is considered a subject matter expert. *ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * 1. Possess extensive knowledge of Clients business processes and technical environment. This includes all environments, software tools, business policies and procedures. 2. Perform technical tasks including the design, installation, maintenance, and monitoring of all WAN and LAN infrastructure equipment, including Cisco routers, hubs, switches, wireless access points, telecommunications equipment and all related cabling and peripherals. 3. Create and manage network diagrams and documentation. 4. Interface with managed network services vendors as required to resolve network outages on frame relay, point-to-point T1, DS3, metro Ethernet and DSL/cable modem connections. 5. Update and maintain router operating systems and monitor security on the company data networks. 6. Perform feasibility studies for proposed changes and requests for new hardware and software in order to provide proactive recommendations for the improvement of day-to-day operations and to prepare the company to take advantage of any future business opportunities. 7. Assist supervisor with setting network strategy in order to position the company on the "cutting edge" using the latest technology offerings that will provide the highest reliability and performance possible. 8. Interface and coordinate with IT personnel, other departments and vendors to facilitate problem solving and provide the highest quality systems possible. 9. Perform additional duties as assigned by Data Network Supervisor and/or Infrastructure Manager. *EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: *Baccalaureate degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience with voice systems and data networks. Telecommunication and Cisco networking experience required. Working knowledge of Unix and Windows operating system required. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or greater certifications expected. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Background must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively within a complex, dynamic environment.
