Job Title: LINUX Admin Specialist Location: Westbrook, ME Duration: 1 month (high possibility of extension) JOB SUMMARY: Builds, installs, configures, optimizes, maintains and ensures integrity of Linux computer systems, servers, networks, desktop technology and application systems. Understands business requirements and ensures systems are tuned to maximize performance. Identifies and implements system enhancements. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Maintains Mandriva Linux server system functionality, resolving problems and facilitating development of systems upgrades, enhancements and improvements. Ensures systems meet business objectives and user needs. - Monitors system performance, identifying problems and implementing solutions; tunes and ensures systems are running at optimum speed and efficiency. Ensures systems are kept maintained and current; develops and maintains scripts to automate system components; configures and installs software, maintenance packages, supporting products and other features. - Maintains system back-up and recovery procedures. Responds to system problems and supports recovery from loss of data caused by user or system. Provides interim solutions to support business until systems are restored. Verifies correct backup strategies and implements recovery procedures. - Researches and recommends system design criteria, in coordination with development staff. Provides stable, up-to-date development environments. - Ensures long-term requirements of system operations and administration are included in overall department information systems planning. Coordinates with other areas of technology department and ensures system alignment with overall department technology strategy. - Creates and maintains system documentation QUALIFICATIONS: - EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. - EXPERIENCE: + 5-7 years Linux/UNIX system administration + A plus to have Linux application development experience especially in eclipse IDE as the user base are application developers + Experience in tool chain support, compilers, linkers debuggers and cross compile environments - REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: + Linux/UNIX system administration in a networked environment.
