Oracle DBA

*Location*: Chicago, IL

*Duration*: 6 Months

*Experience*: 5+ Years



*The candidate for this position must possess the following skills and
traits:***

-       In-depth knowledge of the Oracle optimizer and statistics (how
statistics influence the optimizer, best way to gather statistics,  timing
of when to gather statistics, differences in 10g and 11g)

-       Ability to drill down to root cause of Oracle database performance
issues - considerations include Oracle wait events, SQL plan changes,
blocking, I/O, network bandwidth, etc.

-       Ability to anticipate performance issues given projected system
growth, variations of data load, user volume, etc.

-       Understanding of how database configuration choices (i.e. swap
size, memory) can later influence database performance.

-       Recommend / Coordinate / Implement database configuration changes

-        Expert at writing, debugging and tuning complex SQL and
understands the best ways to incorporate database requests into application
programs.

-       Strong proponent of following defined processes and procedures
(e.g. change management)



*Proficiency with:*

-       AWR (Automatic Workload Repository) to determine system level
performance issues such as buffer busy, latches and enqueues, cluster
related findings, I/O related findings.

-       ADDM (Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor) to see the Top SQL
which are causing performance issues, along with the ability to make
suggestions for improvements

-       ASH (Active Session History) to help determine 'Transient
performance related issues'.

-       Optimize the performance of the database by ensuring the best
possible database throughput and response time.

-       After orientation, the candidate must be able to accomplish the
assigned work independently. Weekly touch points are required with the
assigned Northern Trust manager to determine progress and sticking points,
but a qualified candidate will be self-driven and motivated to find and
resolve issues.

-        Knowledge of all Oracle backup and recovery scenarios.

-       Operate with continuous process improvement mentality - review ->
analyze -> improve -> start over

-       Excellent communication skills with management, development teams,
vendors and systems administrators. The candidate must be able to lead
discussions, record meeting minutes, determine and assign action items and
distribute the meeting minutes in a timely manner.

-       Proven ability to influence Application teams through mentoring and
education in adopting best practices for database development

-       Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

*Additional Skills:*

-       Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g**

-       RMAN**

-       AWR / ADDM / ASH / OEM**

-       Experience in Solaris, AIX, Linux and VMware environments. **

-       BMC Patrol (preferred but not required).**

-       May occasionally need to work after business hours and weekends for
implementations.**

-       Perform as a Project Leader when required.**
