Job Summary:
Build and Deployment Engineer is responsible for providing technical and
operational expertise to the IT Change and Configuration Management (CCM)
team. The incumbent should be comfortable learning, evaluating, and
deploying new technologies, and should be able to thrive in an agile,
production-facing environment. The incumbent will be involved in performing
manual and automated deployments while in parallel automating build and
deployment process in accordance with the Software Configuration Management
process. The ideal candidate is passionate about developing software the
correct way and knows how to maximize efficiency within the SDLC through
automation. The candidate will work across functional project teams to
ensure continuous operation of build and test systems and configuration
management processes are followed, and to identify areas of improvement.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform manual and automated build and deployments of the various NSC
applications into QA, Staging and Production environments.
Experience with Continuous Integration and Automation Tools is required.
Update change requests and incident tickets upon task completion.
Manage source code repositories such as Subversion, CVS and VSS by managing
the trunk, branching, and tagging development code.
Help create requirements and designs for Configuration Management/Release
Engineering systems and implement CM/Release Engineering improvement plans.
Work with IT staff to evolve and maintain an effective infrastructure, and
ensure compliance with release-to-production SLA’s.
Maintain the CM environment for hardware and software product build,
staging, testing and integration.
Enhance build and release processes including branch merges and deployments.
Document and maintain configuration management processes, policies and
procedures such as, configuration management plan, build management
process, and source code management process.
Thorough understanding of Product and Software Life Cycles, including
Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid models.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or some equivalent combination of education and
experience, including through military service.
7-9 years of IT-related experience.
5-7 years of directly related Software Configuration Management
experience.
Mastery proficiency with: Build automation tools - Jenkins, Hudson;
Source control management systems like Subversion, and code
branching/merging strategies; ASP or JSP, HTML, and JavaScript.
3-5 years of experience with Shell Scripting, Maven, Make and Ant
Scripting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of UNIX/Linux based systems.
Live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA.
Desired Qualifications:
ITIL foundation certificate.
Intermediate proficiency with CVS and VSS.
Experience with XML, Web Service application, and MS Windows 2003
server.
Experience with object-oriented analysis and design and object-oriented
programming.
Proficient knowledge of Oracle Database.
Exposure to VB or VB.NET <http://vb.net/>.
Knowledge of Java.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum SDLC methodologies.
Familiarity with WebLogic.
