Position: Oracle DBA Location: Seattle, WA Duration: Full Time, Permanent Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled mid-level database administrator with a minimum of three to four years Oracle experience. Must be able to work well under pressure and multi-tasking considered a strength. This position is full-time and requires flexible shift work. Salary commensurate with experienced. Primary Responsibilities: *Provide assistance to engineering teams for new products. *Proactively recommending process and development methodology improvements. *Ensuring proper technical design and documentation. *Create and/or customize complex database monitoring application systems. *Provide encapsulation of all deployment components of databases (binaries, baselines, scripts, documentation). *Regular management updates of technical issues and their impact to the Company. *Critical decision-making and resolution in emergent situations. *24X7 database administration for all production Oracle databases and supporting software. *Disk space, performance and availability monitoring for all production databases. *Preventative maintenance on all databases. *RDBMS Performance tuning. Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): *Expert knowledge of data retention and recovery practices for Oracle databases. *Knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of High Availability methods. *Strong commitment to 24X7 environment monitoring, metrics generation and logging, on-call rotation schedule. *Experience as a DBA in a 24X7 production environment multiple recent years. *Proficient at capacity monitoring and management capabilities. *Experience in disaster recovery. *Experience with terabyte databases. *Experience with mass storage systems. *Extensive experience with high-volume OLTP database systems. *Extensive UNIX shell scripting, PLSQL, and SQL skills. *Highly motivated to solve problems quickly and completely. *Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze problems by type and severity and understand complex relationships between various infrastructure components. *Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with team members & vendors. *Expert understanding of Oracle database administration best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization, and use of hints). *Understanding Data Warehouse Architecture and concepts and experience with high volume data analytics. *Strong understanding of Oracle 9.x RDBMS on Sun Solaris. *Solid generalized understanding of all major Oracle RDBMS components (optimizers, replication, backup, etc.) *Commitment to 24X7 environment monitoring, metrics generation and logging, on-call rotation schedule. *Ability to resolve production problems independently. *Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze problems by type and severity. *Experience with database support software and procedures *Understanding of Oracle database administration best practices. *Experience with high-volume OLTP database systems. *UNIX shell scripting, PLSQL, and SQL experience. *Ability to analyze and resolve data issues. *Experience in deploying database changes for new database releases with minimal downtime. *Strong documentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. *Attention to detail, process, and quality. *Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities. *Motivated to solve problems quickly and completely.
