Columbus, OH 6 Month Contract Open to All Resources Comm. Skills MUST be excellent Roles Description: We are a predominately a Microsoft SQL Server shop. However, our recently selected target state platform to support the majority of our business is a MySQL database on Linux solution. This MySQL database administrator will primarily drive the best practice infrastructure implementation of our MySQL databases to serve our production and non-production environments for this new platform. Certifications: - Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL 5 Database Administrator (required) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: - Ensures the database environment is designed and managed to meet business and IT demands for availability (HA/DR), performance and manageability. Specific short-term responsibilities: o Work with the infrastructure group to develop the recommended storage architecture plan to support our production and non-production environments o Work with the infrastructure group to plan a HA/DR implementation for the production environment, as well as, database replication strategies - Ensures implementation of industry best practices in systems administration. - Serves as the point of contact for advanced level troubleshooting issues, and performs hands-on systems administration as required. - Involved in application development projects to evolve the database architecture and design. - Monitors database operations and replication. - Analyzes and responds to performance and other maintenance issues. - Participates in the creation of development, staging and production database instances, and the migration of those instances from one environment to another. - Tests and corrects errors and refines changes. - Tunes the performance of all the staging and production database instances. - Performs back-up and recovery. - Plans and executes disaster recovery. - Performs complex query development and reviews. - Performs complex replication and HA/DR solution troubleshooting. - Share MySQL knowledge and provide informal training / guidance to existing DBA staff. Job Specifications: - Proficient in Linux environments and shell scripting - Demonstrated exceptional database design and SQL programming skills for performance tuning - Troubleshooting and data manipulation tasks. - Administering of InnoDB and MyISAM table types. - Experience with MySQL replication. - Experience with HA solutions for MySQL - Experience with MySQL performance tuning and optimization (query optimization, index tuning, caching and buffer tuning). - Experience with data profiling, meta data analysis, data modeling and relational schema design. - Ability to troubleshoot problems in person, over the phone, or via email. - Solid understanding and experience in disaster recovery, planning and implementation. - Experience with backup and recovery process. - Must have hands on experience in Linux and be a certified DBA - Attention to detail. - Ability to diagnose and resolve a broad range of technical problems. - Strong teamwork, leadership and collaboration skills. - Strong communication skills are necessary for interaction with other teams and departments.
