*Need SQL DBA with oracle experience local to NC - 6 Months contract!* Position : SQL DBA with oracle experience Location : Greensboro,NC(Need Locals) Duration : 6 Months EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE • BS in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field; system certification or accreditation highly desirable • Microsoft SQL Server System Administration training and/or Oracle administration training. • Excellent understanding of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database architecture. • 3+ years of practical experience managing Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. • Understanding of RMAN backup & restore configurations and Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control. • Experience with MS SQL Server instance creation, maintenance, and monitoring. • Maintaining MS SQL features and products with expertise in Replication and SQL Server Clustering. • Experience with Oracle and SQL Server high availability options; RAC/clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, SQL Profiler and Data Transformation Services. • Proven ability in capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization of production database systems. • Experience with the Microsoft SQL Server database installation and upgrade process. • Experience of PL/SQL and Transaction SQL • Working knowledge of enterprise level database backup and recovery. • Basic understanding of server virtualization concepts COMPETENCIES & SKILLS • Oracle 11g, SQL Server 2008, PL/SQL, T-SQL, Unix Scripting, Performance Tuning • RAC, Data Guard, SQL clustering, RMAN • Logical data modelling using GUI tools such as ER/Studio or ERWin. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills • Strong analytical and problem solving skills • Ability accept ownership and responsibility • Ability to deliver work timely • Good customer service and customer focus skills • Team building and interpersonal. PURPOSE OF THE JOB: • The Database Administrator in this environment is involved in the full spectrum of DBA responsibilities; database modeling and design, instance creation, maintenance, tuning, and installing & configuring servers. • The environment consists of Sun Solaris based Oracle RAC servers running Oracle 11g and Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 based clustered/non-clustered SQL Server 2008. • All databases are designed as a joint effort between the DBA and software development teams, and modifications are made according to a change control methodology. • All DBAs are expected to function both as system and project level administrators, with rotational assignments to individual software development projects as well as internal development and testing. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Build and maintain Oracle/SQL Servers instances, databases, stored code, and security as required to support application and project needs. • Monitor database resource usage and tune queries and database structures. • Have thorough understanding of Oracle/SQL Server Backup and recovery tools and procedures. • Perform day-to-day database administration. • Provide on-call support for critical database system failures. • Create database schemas as required and integrate with other database systems. • Meet with software development teams to understand project or application data requirements and assist in the design of data structures to meet those needs. • Work closely with Windows Administrators to implement Microsoft SQL Servers, install patches & upgrades. • Have thorough understanding and promotion of all Volvo standards as they relate to corporate database sponsorship. • Maintain good documentation practices.
