Job Description: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This hands-on position provides technical leadership for a team involved in
the development of upcoming major projects. The technical lead will
specify, design and implement server and client-based technologies. The
candidate is expected to have a sound understanding of the software
development life cycle. This person will be responsible for creating and
reviewing functional specifications, design documents and technical
specifications for other developers on the team. The position requires
excellent written and oral communication skills. The position interacts
with Product Management and all Engineering development teams. Use of the
terms platform, redundancy, high availability, deployment and cluster is
only in the context of the Linux Operating System distributed by RedHat.
*RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Perform platform, high availability, deployment and security related
feasibility studies.
- Write platform and high availability functional and design
specifications.
- Manage off shore development of platform and high availability
functionality.
- Work with Software Quality Assurance (SQA) to validate the correct
implementation of systems and applications.
- Interact with project management, other engineering teams, and other
stakeholders as appropriate.
- Implement redundancy and high availability applications.
- Write required scripts and configuration to support highly available
and redundant Linux based deployment.
- Install, configure, harden, administer, and maintain clustered RHEL
systems.
- Design, implement, and validate iptables firewall configurations.
- Install, configure, and administer SELinux and other platform security
software.
- Write scripts and configuration to support platform image build and
deployment
*EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:*
* Required:*
- At least 3 years experience in a technical lead role.
- At least 5 years experience working as a senior software engineer.
- Experience managing offshore development.
- Strong knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and
SQA/SCM (Software Configuration Management) tools.
- Experience working with SQA to develop tests and plan remediation.
- Demonstrated ability to produce functional and design specifications
with minimal supervision, and attend meetings answering technical questions
regarding specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage software interfaces and other
inter-system dependencies.
- A good understanding of highly available and redundant software
development practices.
- Experience in identifying best practices for highly available
configurations as well as geographically redundant configurations.
- Strong knowledge of shell scripting.
- Script language programming on Unix/Linux operating systems (Python,
PHP, and Perl).
- Experience with XML based configuration files.
- Excellent communication skills (including presentation, verbal, and
writing).
- Demonstrated ability to work with other tech leads and teams to resolve
problems.
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and require minimal
supervision.
- Experience building Linux applications from source code.
- In-depth knowledge of Linux administration, configuration, packaging
and deployment.
- In addition, candidates must have experience in one or more of the
following areas:
- Firewalls and Network Security
- TCP/IP and Network topologies
- Knowledge of and experience in virtualization

- Experience with *RedHat ClusterSuite* ( RHCS ?)
- Experience with *WebLogic/OCCAS application server*
- Experience in SSL TLS IPsec networking protocols and architectures
- C/C++ language programming on Unix/Linux operating systems.
- *Java/J2EE language programming on Unix/Linux operating systems. *
- Experience with the MySQL database, database access controls, and
secure data replication over SSL.
- Recent experience in VoIP telephony.
- SNMP Management Systems.
*REQUIRED EDUCATION*
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is
required.
- Masters Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is
preferred.
