Strong hands-on database administration and advanced troubleshooting skills are required for this position • The ADABAS Database Administrator installs the database management software on the enterprise server and is also responsible for applying patched and bug fixes and for performing major version upgrades. • Install, test and debug OEM peripheral software for use by programming staff and Database Administrators • Diagnose and resolve system failure/interruption through the use of dumps and manual problem determination. • Establish, install and maintain database management systems operating standards. • The enterprise database server uses certain system resources, disk, memory and network resources. • The ADABAS Database Administrator identifies physical storage areas and then defines logical mappings to those areas. • After setting up the logical devices (volume, groups etc) the ADABAS Database Administrator creates databases on those devices and assigns administrative responsibility for the DBA • The ADABAS Database Administrator manages system configuration settings, including the amount of server memory and how it’s allocated, the number of concurrent user connection and open databases, and the number locks and sizing the buffer pools. These settings affect system availability and performance. • Maintain database management system and peripheral software through the application of ZAPS and/or source code fixes • Writes and maintains assembler user exits for the database management system and OEM peripheral software • Make sure databases and logs are sized properly. • Add and configure new storage as required. *EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SETS: * • Extensive knowledge of electronics data processing systems, principles and techniques, including assembler and job control language. • Extensive knowledge of ADABAS, Natural and Predict. • Thorough knowledge of the applications for and use of ADABAS and Natural including their capabilities and programming techniques • Ability to investigate/resolve problems in a time constrained environment. • Ability to understand and follow sometimes complex and oral and written instructions • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "SAP BASIS" group.
